bought this compactor in August 2015 and it stopped working December 2017. I paid around $900. The ram would not open or close. The service technician indicated it was not a part that was covered under warranty. The part that was bad was the chain and pulley which the service technician indicated this would just happen because one is metal and one is plastic. So basically poor design. It will cost $300 to get the compactor fixed. So at this point I will have spent $1,200 to have the compactor operable after only 27 months of having it. That is $44 a month to own this without any guarantee that it will continue to function properly. I have been a huge fan of Maytag in the past and did a lot of research before purchasing this one, but they have let me down on this item.

I love the stainless finish and the smashing/compacting is solid. My biggest disappointment is when opening with the foot, it still requires finishing the opening with the handle. My prior model would pop open wide enough to drop the garbage without using the handle, also.

Knob comes off, door is not aligned and no plastic bag caddy. How do you get your compacted trash out? It's an accessory! Pay another $14 to get a complete unit. I have arthritis, wish I had known this when I ordered it.
